The challenging team are responsible for most aspects of race setup, undertaking all steps below. Teams can challenge another team no more than 7 places above them in the team ladder. Teams may challenge others of a higher rank as long as they are within 7 places. Challenges can be made up to a week in advance.

Women's teams can challenge any team within range globally (mixed or women’s), but may only be challenged by other women's teams.

The preferred method of creating a challenge is using the “availability auction” feature, though the “old” way of organising is still summarised below as a backup.

Steering Choice (as of May 2025)

As some of you are aware, we have been developing a method to allow the potential for "steering disabled" races.

  1. During the challenge creation you will now have the choice to disable steering.
  2. If you choose to disable steering you will lost the route and powerup pick, these are given to your opponents instead.
  3. Captains will not know before accepting a challenge if it is "steering" or "no steering", and it is not grounds to refuse or cancel a challenge.
  4. The same is true for auctions, during the offer you can choose "steering off" alongside the request for numbers of riders.
  5. Once the Fixture is in place, the Steering Disabled icon will be visible (before the course and PU’s are chosen):

Note that at the time of release, it has passed on only the most basic testing and may be withdrawn at any stage.

“Old” Backup Method

  1. In the #race-organisation Discord channel (please navigate to the one for your specific region), alert the captain of the opposing team of the challenge and here you can start any discussion on the date and time. Teams being challenged have 24 hours to respond to the challenge. Note: Please refrain from challenging multiple teams for the same time and date to "hedge your bets", it's ok to enquire about availability of more than one team at a time but once you've started the process of making a challenge it should be with a single team.

  2. Navigate to the league view in the ladder site and hit the blue challenge button, check they don’t already have a race agreed, then hit “create challenge”, this will prompt you to propose a time after which it will send the challenge to the opposing captain.

  3. Once the challenge has been formally accepted, the challenging team then have 36 hours to confirm their course choice (this is deliberately done after agreeing time and date, to stop the other team declining on the basis that the just don’t like the course). If the challenging team fail to propose a course within 36 hours then it will flip to the opposition to make the choice.

  4. The challenging captain can then formally make a fixture and request the event from Zwift by completing the form on the challenge page (note this form will be blocked on the day of an event, so any last minute events should be created through the Backup Clubs Process)

    1. Zwift events team will automatically be notified of your request.
    2. Zwift events team work EMEA working hours (Monday-Friday 9-5). You should allow up to 24 hours on a normal workday for event creation, though normally it will be done much quicker. Remember if you request an event over a weekend, you should still allow 24 hours on a workday (ie. 24 hours starting Monday 9am). If you request outwith EMEA working hours you may receive a generic response from out of hours support, you can ignore this. Note, they will use your email from the Ladder system so please make sure that it is correct, and that you are receiving email from the ladder email domain (check your spam!).
    3. Any events required within c 24 hours will have to use the backup clubs process.
    4. Any change requests should be made here.
